'The Nature of Colour' - A Unique Collaboration With The New Craftsmen

July 6, 2015

Earlier this year we teamed up with the Mayfair based champion of craft The New Craftsmen to culminate a unique installation in 'The Mine', the original perfume workshop two floors below the shop at 89 Jermyn Street.

The collaboration was forged when Katherine May, renowned textile artist visited the Floris shop as part of The New Craftsmen’s ‘Made of Mayfair’ project. Her visit to Floris which is still located in its original premises at 89 Jermyn Street, provided a rich seam of inspiration for Katherine who specialises in natural plant and flower based dyes for her strikingly contemporary patchwork and fabrics.

Katherine’s investigation into the archives and the practice of the perfumers at Floris saw her drawing out the relationship between colour and scent, using original perfume recipes as a basis to create a textile based installation in this atmospheric subterranean space.

Guests were invited to dip test papers into jars of dye and connect the perfume with the flower colour.
