The Scents of Summer: How to Enjoy Your Favourite Fragrance on Holiday

A bottle of Bergamotto di Positano

A light spritz of perfume is the perfect pick-me-up on any holiday. It boosts your confidence, invigorates your senses, and puts you in the holiday mood.

Here’s how to travel with your favourite scent and enjoy it when you reach your destination:

Pack Your Perfume Strategically

There’s nothing worse than taking a perfume bottle on holiday only to find that it’s leaked all over your freshly ironed clothes.

Rather than taking a large bottle of perfume with you, we recommend taking a smaller amount – not only do you reduce the risk of leakage but you save valuable luggage space.

You can decant your fragrance into an atomiser or take a smaller bottle. As well as our standard 100ml bottles, Floris fragrances come in 10ml and 50ml bottles, making them perfect for a week or a fortnight away.

Why not try our Perfumer's Trilogy? Pick three 10ml perfumes from our extensive range of fragrances and change your perfume to suit different times of the day.

If you prefer to take a larger bottle in your luggage, protect it by keeping it in its original box. You can also wrap it in a pair of clean socks and put it in a pair of sturdy shoes, like a pair of trainers.

Keep Your Perfume Out of the Sun

The UV rays in sunlight can break down the molecules in perfume, permanently altering the colour and the scent.

Store your perfume bottle in a cool, dark, dry place in your hotel room, like a dresser drawer, and avoid direct sunlight.

Remember That Fragrances Change in the Heat

Hot weather changes how fragrances smell and behave. Top notes evaporate faster, and heart and base notes develop more quickly. This means your favourite perfume can seem a little more overpowering than usual, and not last as long.

If you are on holiday, spraying your perfume on your clothes can make it last longer, as there is no body heat or oil to change the scent. Avoid doing this on delicate materials like silk or pale fabrics, as this may leave a stain.

Alternatively, consider an Eau de Toilette over an Eau de Parfum. An Eau de Toilette contains a lower concentration of perfume oil, meaning it feels lighter, fresher, and less intense in the summer heat.

Use Bath and Body Products to Make Your Scent Last

A long-awaited holiday is the ideal time to enjoy some pampering, meaning you can step out and enjoy your evenings in style.

Using bath and body products in the same scent as your perfume provides a long-lasting and caring barrier, locking in your fragrance and making it last through the small hours of the night.

From shower gels and enriched body moisturisers to deodorant sticks and fragrance powders, many of your favourite Floris fragrances are complemented by luxuriously-scented bath and body products.

Floris Fragrances That Are Perfect for Summer

Going on your dream holiday is a fantastic opportunity to try a new fragrance. When you come back, every time you use it, you’ll be reminded of the wonderful time you had and the memories you made.

Here are some of our favourite holiday-inspired scents that will take you from beach to bistro to bar:

Neroli Voyage

A fresh fragrance that takes inspiration from the southern Mediterranean.

Neroli Voyage was inspired by the travels of Robert Floris, who travelled the Ligurian Sea coastline in the 19th Century, sourcing new fragrance ingredients from overseas.

Elegant and refined, with bracing top notes of neroli and lemon, this scent is perfect for lazy days at the beach and evening spritzes at the marina.

Bergamotto di Positano

A light, refreshing and warming scent that captures the beauty of the picturesque Amalfi Coast.

Bergamotto di Positano is a homage to Charles Joseph Pagliano, who left the Amalfi Coast to marry his sweetheart, Mary Floris.

This fragrance captures the breath-taking spectacle of the Mediterranean coast in a bottle, with fresh top notes and warm, spicy base notes – a scent that evolves with you through the day.

Cefiro

A floral and woody unisex fragrance inspired by a warm, gentle summer breeze.

Cefiro is the Spanish word for ‘zephyr’ – a gentle breeze. Close your eyes, and this scent will make you feel like you’re relaxing in a Mediterranean courtyard, replete with weathered terracotta tiles and a stunning view of the ocean.

With heart notes of jasmine and nutmeg and a creamy aromatic drydown, Cefiro is the perfect accompaniment to walks through sleepy historic towns.

JF

A dramatic, stimulating fragrance that captures the spirit of Minorca.

JF is named after the founder of Floris, Juan Famenias Floris and is inspired by his native island of Minorca, where he was brought up before coming to London.

With crisp, clean top notes of coriander and bergamot and hearty base notes of amber and moss, this timeless scent will make you yearn for turquoise waters, white-sandy beaches, and lively cobblestoned streets.

Limes

A pure and distinctive scent designed for hot summer evenings.

Limes was created by Juan Famenias Floris when he came to London, developed to combat the heat of the city in summer. Nearly three centuries later, it’s one of our most long-standing and well-loved fragrances.

Lime blossom, lemon, and neroli combine with a musk base to create a scent that’s fresh without being overpowering, a wonderful choice for warm days and balmy nights.

Soulle Ámbar

An opulent, adventurous fragrance inspired by the Balearics.

Amber perfumes are a surprisingly good option for summer holidays. Soulle (Spanish for ‘sunlight and eastern wind’) Ámbar combines rich amber base notes with fresh top notes of pineapple and bergamot to create a scent that’s vibrant and works with the heat.

Inspired by Juan Famenias Floris’ roots in Minorca, Soulle Ámbar is perfect for the summer months and those who appreciate warm, resinous fragrances throughout the year.

Prepare for an Adventure of a Lifetime with Floris

When you pack for your upcoming summer holiday, don’t forget to pack your favourite Floris fragrance.

Whether you prefer a crisp marine scent that reminds you of the ocean or a floral fragrance that’s reminiscent of colourful summer blooms, your dream holiday perfume is waiting for you.

Which fragrances are best for summer?

The best summer fragrances are light and refreshing, inspired by fresh fruits, exotic flowers, and salty ocean breezes.

Some of our favourite holiday fragrances include JF, Cefiro, Bergamotto Di Positano, Neroli Voyage, Citrus, and Soulle Ámbar.

Why does my favourite fragrance smell different on holiday?

Your holiday fragrance may smell slightly different in hot weather, as heat can cause top notes to evaporate faster and make heart and base notes smell more intense.

What size perfume can I take in my hand luggage?

Most airports limit perfumes to 100ml, which must fit in a transparent, resealable bag alongside other liquids you want to take on your flight.

However, some airports (including Heathrow, Gatwick, Edinburgh, and Birmingham) are now accepting a limit of two litres per container – we recommend checking with your airport before you fly.
